Fiesta MHEV 1.0 battery issues

Featured Replies

Seems the battery on our 4 year Fiesta won't hold its charge. Charged it the other day with my CTEC and it only held charge for 3-4 days before the app pinged that it was low battery.

Anyway, was going to get Halfords to fit a new battery but they said they cannot fit batteries to mild hybrid MHEV Fords. The battery needs to be coded to the car, apparently. So is my only option to get it replaced at Ford and be fleeced big time? I rang them earlier for a quote and they will be getting back to me but warned a new Ford supplied battery "is around £350". :shocking:

Does anyone know of any other options to fit a battery to a MHEV that apparently needs coding?

I used Halfords to replace battery on my MHEV focus. The guy fitted, reset the system and good to go.

Thats interesting. For me, I paid for the battery online at Halfords, then got a phone call from them saying they could not fit the battery due to it needing to be coded. Then when I popped into the store later to sort the refund, a different guy said the battery could not be fitted. They said they can do non-MHEV Fords, but not MHEV's as they havent got the software/hardware to do it.

Maybe other Halford stores do have the hardware/software. I might ring around a few places and see if it can be done elsewhere.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the standard 12V vehicle battery ?

Unless there is some hidden details that I'm not aware of, the only thing that needs to be done is for the BMS to be reset.

Yep, the normal 12V under the bonnet. I dont know why Halfords said it "needed to be coded" and that they did not have the equipment to do the job.

I'm sure Halfords would have liked my business and they already took my money! But they gladly offered me a full refund as they could not fit the battery. Strange.

So all you need to do is buy a replacement Yuasa battery of the correct size and change it yourself. Takes no more than 20 minutes even if you've never done it before. Then reset the BMS and the job is complete all for around £110 👍
