Just got a Zetec S 58 plate

Featured Replies

Hey everyone

Just picked up a Fiesta Zetec s petrol 58 plate today and had a few questions if anyone could help

1) i used to have an ST150 which crunched when going into reverse was told that its a common feature of the 150s so left it and had no issues, found this zetec to do the same. Is that normal for these like the 150s or is there anything I can do or need to worry about?

2) when braking hard from speed (let say 70 down to 30) the car feels very squirrely but doesn't pull in any direction during normal driving and doesn't have any clunking or banging. Again is this normal for these models? as the mark 6 I had felt noticeably more planted than this one does, but this Zetec seems a lot more eager to change direction

Cheers

1: I've always found that B5s crunch. I've always depressed the clutch, started to engage reverse and slowly lift the clutch at the same time. As soon as I felt reverse was going to drop in I would put the clutch pedal back down again. That used to stop it crunching

2: Ensure good quality tyres that match are fitted, at the right pressure and that the tracking is correct.

If all that is OK make sure the Discs and Pads are in good condition and that you haven't got a seizing/lazy caliper

How many miles has it done? Do the rear brakes need overhauling now?

The IB5 is an archaic gearbox.  There's no synchro on reverse.  So you need to wait for the gears to stop spinning completely in order to engage it without crunching.

Yes, quite rare nowadays but the VW Up! and clones are the same. I have to remember when switching to our SEAT Mii!😀
