Alternator out

Featured Replies

After an absolute faff, it's out the whining 19 year old crusty alternator is free for the scrap yard in the sky.

Very little is resistance when spinning, yes the bearings are hissing, applified when under tension from the AUX belt.

Better Access with the PSP off, heat shroud off & dip stick removed.

The pulley attached to the alternator was by far the worst, that bolt just went on for ages, but no knackered bolts or threads.

I'll have a "Gunk" clean up tomorrow prior to refit of all items removed, fluids arriving Friday.

As a note, I did plug the dipstick hole, but noticed the seals on the dipstick holder were past there sell by date, new ones on order.

Quite impressed with the overall condition of the engine bay, seen a lot worse on a 3 year old car.
