2019 oil filter change DIY?

Featured Replies

I'm considering changing the oil and filter DIY. Are there any online video guides for this model of the car (I can only find mark 1 videos on YouTube, or is it the same?)?

I could use an oil vacuum pump but don't have ramps/pit/jacks so need to know if the filter access is top or bottom.

Just to keep this at the top...

You don't say if petrol or diesel or exact model so I'm hedging my bets...?

If it's the DW10 diesel engine AND they haven't changed the design from 2011 (Ha Ha to that!) the filter may be accessible from above (LHS, under the dipstick area, black plastic housing with hex on top) Have a look there?
For that model you may need something like:

However, I'm hoping someone else with specific knowledge of your engine (which you'll have to confirm first) will come along...anyone?

Diesel - here's a photo. Not sure on the exact model, I'll try to dig out the paperwork.

I'll fork out for a Haynes manual if it looks like a goer!

It's  massively different to 2011, hopefully someone knows where the filter is!🤔

If you do go for Haynes, make sure it covers your EXACT  model - they aren't as straightforward as they used to be. There may be the "manual" and the "Autofix".

That's a 2.0 EcoBlue.  The filter is underneath.

Thanks guys.

Would you say it's worth servicing yourself ? I quite enjoy car maintenance though I'm not amazing at it. I'll need to get some stands etc.

Financially it's probably not worth doing your own oil change.  They can be had with an MOT cheap enough at some chain garages.

Saves all the hassle of jacking up and having to dispose of the old oil etc.  Plus buying jack & stands, and having to store them somewhere.  Then have to consider what your time is worth, either because you're self employed, or because you could be spending weekends with friends or family.

If you enjoy the process though, that's a different matter.  The oil change isn't difficult on these, it's just awkward because you need to get it high enough to reach the screws at the back of the undertray.
