Tyre pressures

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

Help me solve a debate please.

No, I don't know much about cars and yes when I bought my car just over a month ago I have just figured out the tyres air pressures were 50psi (went to check tyre pressures at the garage), my partner put them down to 32PSI..

SO, I've drove it after he's deflated them and now I feel like the car is too heavy and is pulling too much.

What is the correct PSI and what do you all have yours on?

Feel like because I'm a girl I'm not right but I feel like they are too low. 😬

Can I have some ideas please. 🙏

The correct tyre pressures are on a plate on the inside of the drivers side front door. The correct pressure depends on the tyre size and the load carried. My S-Max has 17 inch wheels and for carrying 1-3 passengers all the tyres are at 36 psi or 2.5 Bar, 50 psi is way too high.

There should be a label on one of the door posts telling you the correct pressures for your car.  It will show what pressures you need for normal or fully laden.  There may be diffrnt pressures for different tyre sizes, make sure you use the settings for your size of tyres.

The boyfriend has had a look in the car but doesn't seem that he can find it? Do either of you have a photo you can send please. I have a 2011.

Not to worry we've found and looked in the log book.

Definitely not 32 PSI for 2 litre x sport.

Thank you anyway ☺️

Says on the manual about full load being 800kg, we are a family of 2 adults, 3 nearly teens and 2 slightly younger again.

Would you do pressure to normal load or full load?

Do you all go out together regularly over a long distance?  I'd say for general use you're probably alright with normal load pressures until you're going on holiday with a load of luggage for example.

I've never seen a specific weight given for full load though.  Did it also give a weight for normal load?  Presumably you know your weights better than we could guess them lol.

If you were carrying all these passengers for most of the time I would go for about 40 psi all round, but the ride may be a little hard with only the driver.

If I were to summarise, I would say the 50 psi is too high and 32 psi is too low so it should be somewhere in between.

Partner was telling me its 800kg for a full load 🤷‍♀️ id say if we all in it most of the time it needs to be pumped up more and not on the normal weight. It's usually 4 or 5 of us but we have step children half the week too.

I think we've come to an agreement what i said about the car feeling too heavy and that the car could do with a little more in it, that 50 is too much and 32 is too little 😆😁

Thanks guys!
