New Stereo draining battery

Featured Replies

Hi all,

wired this new tablet stereo into my car a good while back and since had battery issues, replaced the battery as it was old anyway but it is still draining the system. I have double checked it is the stereo draining it, I figured I must have a permanent live there which I don’t know about? Any help would be much appreciated, below is a picture of the cars wires going into the stereo adaptor supplied.

Update: I tested the wires coming from the adaptor block towards the stereo and the yellow was perm 12v, with red only 12v when ignition was on. I’ve cut the yellow and now have no power to the stereo 🤔

Problem now fixed. It won't drain the battery anymore !! 🤣

That much is true, though it makes zero sense.

A standalone stereo needs a permanent live in order to save the information on it and keep the clock running etc.  The switched live just tells it when to turn on the display and sound.

It should go into a 'sleep' mode with the ignition switched off but will still take some power during that time.

I have gone into developer settings and put it into the lowest power consumption when “off” after 48 hours of not using the car the battery is completely depleted.

If it was bought from Amazon/Ebay it might be worth checking reviews to see if anyone else has the same issue.  I suspect the fix is just to fit a different stereo.
