Oil changing on 1.0l eco

Featured Replies

Hi. I have a well known manual vacuum oil extractor that I used on my two previous Discovery's.

One of the extraction tubes will certainly fit in the dipstick pipe; but, I am wondering if it is a direct line, top to sump

No specific reason other than having time on my hands, and never having had a "Wet-Belt" before I would have no worries doing a mid service oil change.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Cheers

I service my own 1.0 ecoboost. You will still need to raise the vehicle to change the oil filter, so not a lot of point in sucking the oil out? Back when I had my old merc, that had an oil filter on the top of the engine, this made sense to suck the oil out so no need to raise the vehicle. My advice is just drain the oil as normal and replace the sump plug.

I would 2nd that. If we are talking about an early wet belt 1.0 then it would make sense to let the old oil rush out hot - taking with it as much belt debris as possible.

If going to the expense of doing a 'mid service' oil change I would personally replace the filter.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think of extracting oil via the filling port!

Also never heard of the car having to be raised to swop the filter ??

its a lovely little car, but they really do make the simplest of tasks virtually impossible, and we certainly no why ££££££££££.

Do you have the chain engine or the double wetbelt engine?

The filter is at the back on the belt engine.  No way of reaching that without getting under the car.

However, it's at the front on the chain engine, so you may be able reach that from above without jacking up.
