Mk2 1.6 Petrol for sale listed "EML Light on drives fine"

Featured Replies

Someone else I know is looking for a cheap car.

A Mk2 1.6 Petrol came up locally. 106,000 miles. Priced at £699 to clear.

The advert says "EML Light on but drives fine".

What would be the first things to look at as possible cause? The usual cluster problem is one possibility.

The bodywork is in reasonable condition. MOT history looks ok otherwise.

I haven't actually seen the car and don't have any way to read the fault codes.

Thanks for any replies.

Often lambda sensor if it genuinely 'drives fine'.  But I wouldn't take the sellers word for that.

If it is the actual EML, not just the LED warning, then a basic OBD reader should read the codes.  I would expect any garage to have one of those now.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do have a cheap generic OBD reader.
