Focus MK3.5 Auto Headlights

Featured Replies

Recently purchased a Focus 1.0 140 ST-Line.

It has two sensors with wires above the mirror. So I assumed one of these was for light for auto headlights. Purchased the correct auto headlight switch, plugged it in and then went to look under forscan in BCMii for an auto headlights setting.

Can't seem to see one in there. What am I missing? Are these sensors not for that or am I doing something wrong on the forscan side?

Added the sensors and switch to my old S-Max but that was a long time ago and I can't remember if I did anything with forscan then!

Here's a pic of the sensorsPXL_20241124_150401693.MP_exported_0.thumb.jpg.d7a082a211121dffab4633a4ab063a10.jpg

I think both of those are just GPS/telematics units.

Do either of them have 'eyes' visible on the other side of the screen?

Has your car got auto rain sensing wipers ?

No doesn't have auto wipers.

Think there's some kind of nighttime courtesy headlights thing as a little strip remains on after I turn the headlights off and get out. Which is why I assumed there was some kind of sensor. Unless it's just timing based.

I'll take a look on the outside.

Coming home lighting is just timed.  The ST-Line didn't get luxuries such as auto lights, auto wipers or auto dimming mirror, which generally all come as one package on Fords.

Had a look and there's nothing. So with what TomsFocus is saying it's not as simple as I thought.

Might sort it at some point though.

Is it the same as the smax with the plug already in the headliner or full wiring like the guide on the forum?

I don't know if the wiring is there on these I'm afraid.  Or how easy a retrofit would be.  It requires a full new windscreen on some models in order to get the sensor clamp that holds the sensor tight against the screen.  Some Fords will allow just a light sensor, without wipers, using a dashboard sensor instead (sun sensor for climate control, which the ST-Line also doesn't usually have as standard), though again I don't know whether that is on option on these, it may just be the next generation of Fords where that was an option.

The connectors that are visible on the picture are not connected to sensors. These are the ground connections of the heated windscreen (each side of the windscreen has its own power and ground connection).

As far as I can tell by the picture this is the basic windscreen without the mounting locations for the light/rain sensor. To retrofit the light rain sensor a different windscreen is required.

Apart from the windscreen vehicles with auto headlights and auto wipers also have a different rear view mirror with mounting points for the light rain sensor covers.

Another point of concern is the wiring. The ST-line is based on the Zetec trim level and must be considered to be a relatively low trim level. There is a considerable chance that the required wiring is not present.

That's the main one, there's no wiring and your BCM probably won't support either

And, yes, you need a screen
