Starter swap on 1.6 petrol auto

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm trying to change the starter on a 2007 1.6 petrol auto, but the gearbox mount is in the way of getting a ring spanner or socket on the bottom of the three bolts.  Anyone come across this and did you manage to fix it?  I'm guessing I have to move the gearbox mount, but I'm not sure exactly how to, eg which bit to undo and which bits will need supporting first.  NB this is the auto, the problem doesn't arise on a manual because the box and mount are different. Thanks, Glyn

If this is the rear/lower mount then you don't need to support anything.  It doesn't hold the engine & gearbox up, it simply stops them swinging back & forth under acceleration.

I haven't done the starter on an auto Fiesta, but if you need to remove that whole mount for access, you will need to remove all 4 bolts - 3 on the gearbox casing and one through the car side.

Managed to sort it.  Once I got a proper light on it I realised that it was just the auto cable linkage mount, not the gearbox mount, so easy enough to undo and move out of the way just enough to get to the bolt.
