Many years ago, 20+ years, I used PhotoBucket to host pictures so I could use online with forums etc, it was 'free'. Back in the day, forums linked photos to 3rd parties as memory was hugely expensive! Then one day, overnight, they introduced a subscription charge which saw my collection of photos unusable unless I paid up. So all the posts I ever did with a photo showed just a blank space.

Out of the blue, I got an email from them today asking if I wanted to 'recover' my 400 odd photos and reactivate my account which I long since thought of as dead. I was quite excited that I'd get my photos back, however...

After going through the 'recovery' procedure, I landed on the 'subscription page 🤣 If I wasn't going to pay 20 odd years ago, I'm certainly not paying now.

Makes you think of the 'free' things we have access to now, but overnight could easily convert to paid, like GMail for example.
