mk7 fiesta 1.0 2016 heated front windscreen and rear

Featured Replies

my front heated windscreen horn and rear screen is not working. when i pres the horn i can hearn a clicking sound and when i press the front heated screen or back they dont light up and nothing happens

That's an odd selection of faults.  Have they suddenly all stopped together?

Where is the click when you press the horn?  Under the bonnet or inside the car?

All of those items, especially the heated front screen use lots of power. The horn not so much but it is sensitive to low voltage.

I suspect that the state of charge of the vehicle battery is low, probably less than 60%

Put the battery on charge for at least 12 hours and I expect things will return to normal.

Behind the steering wheel?  If so, that's just the wheel contacts being tapped together.  You can't normally hear it over the sound of the horn.

I'm not convinced the horn fault is connected to the screen faults, as they don't share any common parts.

The horn is a legal requirement so should be the priority here.

As you've got a multimeter, check for voltage reaching the horn relay.  I believe it's one of the small black relays in the engine bay on a Mk7, unless they changed that for the facelifts.

Battery connections?

No it's in the glovebox area

Ok, the relay must be in there on the Mk7.5s.  Ideally you need to check the horn itself now, that is located just behind the front bumper.

Checking battery connections is well worth doing as well, especially for the heated screen faults, as both of those do get purposely cut-off with low battery charge.

I narrowed it down to a fault horn as its receiving power to the connector. Any ideas on the rear and screen screen?

As it's both screens it is most likely a battery fault.

Firstly what is the resting voltage at the battery?

Second can you twist either of the battery terminals?

If it's not a battery fault then it might be a loose plug on the back of the switch panel.

Poor battery (or other end of the leads) connections can give some misleading symptoms.  It can give normal voltage readings under light loads but the connection breaks down on high(er) current demands.  I've seen this  many times on industrial electrical equipment.

Having said that, I would have thought you would have starting problems !
