Bonnet release 2015-2018

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to open the bonnet on a 2015 - 2018 smax when the yellow lever won’t budge????

Will probably have changed from 2011 design where the main cables were prone to snapping (replace with stainless steel inner from Amazon etc. before that happens)
If the main release has failed, i.e. the bonnet doesn't lift at all then that will need investigating first.
AFAIK, once the main catch has released there is a hook directly connected to the safety catch which can only be seized on it's pivot?
Check and confirm the main release has worked and the safety is actually seized (can it be moved with some gentle "persuasion"?) and come back for someone else who has had this problem and may be able to help as that's my best (as ever) guess?

Luckily the bonnet does lift up.

Sprayed some penetrant in and tried to lift the main catch with no luck… Going to try a big screwdriver tomorrow.

After a whole lot of effort it was for nothing….
One of the air con caps had been placed there after a re-gas at garage and not put back thus jamming against the lever!

It’s amazing what you can see in the day time 🙃

Don't you just love some "professionals" (with apologies to those who are)

Must admit I spent a while wondering how the yellow lever could jam yesterday.  Not uncommon for the cables to stretch or snap but this is the first time I'd heard of the yellow lever getting stuck.
