struggling to put the vanity light cover back on

Featured Replies

hi guys

bought some brighter light bulbs for the interior, i have maneged to swap them all over apart from the glove box and partly the vanity light bulb. i have took the vanity light cover off no problem but for the life in me, i cannot put the cover back on. there is a metal plate what it attaches to but it moves around so i took the metal plate out then atached it and tried putting it back that way but nope! i just cant figure this one out at all.

any help please

many thanks guys 🙂

Have you got a picture?  Are there any clips that could have broken off?

Cheers Tom, no clips nroke at all.

Here are the pictures:

As you can see, I can't think of a way to attach the cover back on that metal plate.

Ah, I see what's happened here.  There should be a grey plastic ring on this side that holds the metal part to the headliner.  It's probably on the floor somewhere if you didn't see it drop off.

Sorry Tom, I don't quite follow.

From what I can see, the cover clips onto that metal plate and I was very careful so nothing came out or fallen out.

Is there still a grey plastic ring around the clear lens?  I can't tell in the picture.  If yes, you've removed the wrong clips.  Those clips hold the ring to the metal.

To remove the bulb, you should only have removed the clear lens, using a screwdriver between the grey ring and clear plastic.  Not between the outside of the ring and the headliner.

Omg!!! I know what you mean now.

Look at the picture, the lens cover does come out:

Ok, il do that on the other vanity cover but how the hell do I put the whole covet back on the metal plate now?

Ignore that last question, I have finally done it 🤣 many thanks Tom.

Please see picture:

Now that I took the whole unit out, I can just put my fingers in there to clip the outer plastic to the metal plate.

Schoolboy error 🤣 I've done it myself in the past, removed the whole light fitting from the headlining rather than just remove the clear perspex light lens! Took an age to work out what I'd done...

Yeah I do feel silly 🤣
