Later this month I will have passed 50,000 miles in my Ecoboost Mk8. I propose to remove the sump and give the oil pickup a Hard Stare. While I am at it, I plan to make a big hole in it and make a cover plate to allow it to be inspected without removing the sump. As there is little clearance, I may make the new part dished to allow the pump to run in a deeper pan of oil.

    how are you going to see through the oil in the sump? wouldn't this negate a window

    The part will be removable, after the oil is drained in order to allow the oil pump inlet to be examined and if necessary, cleaned.
