Can a low battery cause the Powershift auto transmission to behave oddly?  Mine has been changing up & down briefly for no apparent reason sometimes.

    Yes, that's always the first thing to check.

    Powershifts have no LOS/LIMP strategy and do not like low power

    If you don't know when the battery was last changed put a new one on (fully charge it before fitting) and perform a transmission reset

    Thanks Dave.  Having a new battery today.  The Fiesta handbook, surprisingly  (generally quite good I think) ,  only mentions resetting the electric windows 'bounce back' after fitting a new battery. Thanks to this site I now know about resetting the Battery Management System.  I'll now also look at You Tube for the Powershift reset.

    Cars used to be much simpler !
