Fiesta mk8 reverse camera fault

Featured Replies

Factory fitted reverse camera keeps activating itself when not in reverse, the camera will flick on and off at random times, anyone come across this fault before or have any idea what could be causing it 🤔

thanks

It could be that the Reverse (Light) Switch on the Gearbox or its wiring is faulty.

If you could get someone to drive behind you to check if your Reverse Light was coming on when you were driving then that would point to the above fault.

Yes I would agree with that thought. A faulty reverse switch would trigger the camera, but it is possible that if it is a very quick fault the reverse lights might not have time enough to light up before the fault is gone.

I did get out the car when it was faulting to try to see if it was bringing the reverse lights on but it stopped doing it by the time I got there, it did bring on the back wiper on though as the auto wipers were switched on 🤔

It also does it when it’s in neutral

Then I would say the reverse light switch on the gearbox is faulty.

So I’ve had the reverse light switch replaced and it’s still doing it, any other ideas as what it could be, possibly a wiring fault ? Is there some control module that could be the problem? Just asking before I have to get it to an auto electrician 🤔

The signal from the reverse light switch goes directly to the Body Control Module (BCM). It then supplies power to the reverse lights (and wiper if needed), and also the reverse parking sensors.

Water ingress to the BCM is a common issue for a lot of models, but not normally on a 2018 Fiesta.
