Mk4 Focus ST Digital Dash stays blank after starting car

Featured Replies

Hi, tried searching this site but get error about site not working so wondering if any other mk4 Focus owners with the digital dash have encountered when turning the car the digital dash not working & then after 10-30 minutes coming on? Had this the other day then this morning started the car & dash worked went into town centre did some shopping got back in the car started it and digital dash blank although centre display & HUD was working which is a life saver when this happens as can still drive the car using the speed shown in the HUD.

When this happens turning the car off & back on doesn't seem to fix the issue, it just turns back on while then driving, tried also changing drive modes to see if it kicks back in. Also it does not seem to throw up any error codes in the ECU.

Shortly after purchasing the car as 2nd owner and car will be 3 years old next march, did have an issue with battery needing charging every 3 days as stop/start also not working & getting messages about it turning modules off due to low voltage, so took the car to local dealers for diagnostics which they said everything was fine but after having to charge battery again afterwards decided to get myself a new heavy duty battery from local car parts store & as soon as that was fitted all the messages and stop/start worked properly again and car has been totally fine until this week.

What now concerns me if when the digital dash is out and the HUD also fails so wondering if anyone here has an idea what is at fault.

Thanks

Don't mess about. The car is still under Ford warranty. You are very unlikely to be able to repair the fault yourself and even if you could you would invalidate the warranty regarding any further problems.

Get the car booked in to a Ford dealer now. Once they have looked at the issue the problem is on file so if it keeps happening you can keep bouncing the car back to them to be repaired.

Hi thanks for replying, well problem I've got is with local dealers is the time it will take for me to even get them to book car in as previous faults it took over 12 weeks from point of contact and not sure who they actually have there know what their doing. When I had those Issues I didn't mention above but another problem I had was the Ford online system kept telling me car needed an update but when you checked via the car it just said it was already updated.

Now at that point the battery was & still is under warranty but finally after they looked the car & did diagnostics they told me the battery and the car was fine & didn't it need updating, but clearly it wasn't & was just the fact I was able to get that heavy duty battery from a local parts place discounted from £200 to £121 that I thought forget about trying to get ford to sort this under warranty and lets see what happens if i do actually replace it, once new battery was fitted it was the issues i had went away.

Which is why decided to reach out & see if anyone else has seen this & if they knew what is causing it, not so much to fix myself but then gives me information to give to them as now at the point thinking made wrong choice going back to Ford car again. Previously the last newish car I had was a 2016 Seat Leon Cupra &had much better experience with both the car & the local dealers when issues popped up.

Sounds like your issues are similar to mine. Ford have been useless (Mallusk branch NI) unless a computer tells them there's an issue then they don't have a clue how to fix anything. My battery needs replaced (start stop but they just slow charge it which works for a short time then stops working again). Digital dash half of it turns off sporadically (however never happens when I book it in which as you say can be 2 months after the fault occurs) so when they get it they think it's fine as the computer says no issue despite videos and photos of the problem.  My rear brakes scream when reversing and slowing (only going backwards).  They can never replicate this tho I send them videos of it happening tho they still don't believe me or even change pads/discs/calipers as that's where the issue is. Then they have the nerve to charge for diagnostic test which is a farce and send you a video of the underneath of your car (I don't care, fix the problems you useless cretins).  Anyway my car is now seemingly out of 3rd party warranty and issues raised within a month of picking it up are still present.  I think I'm about to go full Michael Douglas in falling down soon.  If I said there's an issue there's an issue. Change the pads, give me a new battery and accept the video/photo evidence of all issues and change the dash which is a well known issue.  Rather than saying "computer says no"
