To rebuild or to sell as spares ?

Featured Replies

I have a 2014 1.0 ecoboost with 75k on the clock and had the wetbelt/oilpump breakdown. Had it all cleaned out and big end bearings replaced and drives fine now been driving it for over 100 miles but the engine is still knocking lol 😂😭😳

I been quoted £1250 for a rebuild which includes new crank, bearings, conrods, headgasket and new wetbelt all supplied and fitted for £1250 with a 6 month warranty.

I could maybe get £1000 as spares or sell once fixed for maybe around £2500.

Do you guys think I should get it rebuilt or sell as spares ?

If you can get over £1000 as it is, that's the best option.

Spending £1250 and wasting time and effort getting it repaired just for £250 extra isn't worth it.  And realistically the turbo and/or vac pump will need doing soon which will wipe out that £250 anyway.

£1250 looks an amazing price for that amount of work, though. Even the best prices we've seen from independents for the wet belt alone are £800-1,000, main dealers double that.
