Was it fully charged for at least 12 hours before it was fitted ?

How long has the 'new' battery been on the car ?

What is the SOC voltage now ?

Can find out don't feel safe to drive car is there or know anyone to do a independent inspection

You can pay the RAC or AA for a vehicle inspection. They will NOT repair, they will report what they find wrong with your car, not what the fault is or why. This is true of any inspection carried out.

If you have the money to pay for an auto-electrician to come and diagnose the faults that may be more useful.

Of course for little or no money you could charge the battery for at least 12 hours and see just how many of the problems go away.

I wonder why there is a reticence from the OP to charge the battery?

  • They do not have a smart charger (though could purchase for about £25, much less than any 'inspection')
  • They do not have access to a safe electric supply for said charger to car (maybe only has on street parking)
  • Maybe lack of knowledge of how to actually use said charger (if so, post back here and we can talk you through the very simple correct method)

I will follow this thread with interest...

since i got my battery i have started charging it once a month as unofix have said 🙂

but didnt charge it when i bought the battery though. should have done but didnt think.

Maybe @Dannyboydw  is looking to reject as just bought so for the second time this evening I'll post:

And did the car need the battery to be "coded" to it using one of the many crazy procedures?

Ford don't use coded batteries on their models.

Just a simple reset of the BMS when a new battery is fitted.

Re the back seat belt alarm not resetting, do you mean that the car thinks there are passengers in the rear seats when there isn't? If so I had similar issue and turned out to be a wiring connector not clicked in properly below the rear seat cushion on the driver's side.

It's a bit awkward to reach but you should be able to get to it from the side with the door open.

I know, just couldn't think of the word to describe the ridiculous process you have to follow to reset BMS when new battery fitted (obviously for safety as the combination should never occur in practise) that isn't consistent from model to model!

Just realised that @Dannyboydw  appears to be in Scotland, if so the CA link for consumer advice should be:
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/scotland/consumer/buying-or-repairing-a-car/problems-with-a-used-car/

And will need to contact CA Scotland:

Warranty or finance/credit card company may be jointly responsible?

Never easy to assert your rights (and know them)  but need to act quickly, keep evidence and behave professionally?
