2020 Ford Focus ST Line E.boost 1.0- Acceleration issues

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New to the platform and just wanting to see if anyone else is having similar issues to me as I'm not a car person at all so know very little on them.

I bought a second hand 20 reg 1.0 Ecoboost in September 23 with 33,400 miles on it. First 10 months were perfectly fine and then all of a sudden, say August September time it started to kinda stuttering when and losing power when accelerating. First happened when going up hill on the motorway at about 70mph, in 6th gear. Just a normal scenario until it started stuttering out if the blue.

I previously took it to Halfords who said it was the spark plugs. They changed them but the issues continued. They then told me it was an engine issue and that I needed to take it to Ford. I did this, who then told me again it was spark plugs. Turned out the ones from Halfords were cracked. Don't worry, got a refund. They didnt seem to think it was anything else. However, the car started running well again for a couple of months but has just started stuttering again. It seems to be when I'm between 2 and 3000 rpm both when going through gears and when accelerating.

It has happened again this eve (8/12) when going up hill between jnc 22 to 23 on the M62 when overtaking. It stuttered, I started losing power and then the speed starting going down. Engine light started flashing but then went off. As I live just of jnc 23, I limped home as it seemed to sort itself out.

I have no idea what it is and am wondering if anyone else out there has had the same issues? I've checked to see if there is a recall but no apparent luck.

Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you use FORScan then you will be able to read the DTC which should give a good indication of what the fault is.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

Obviously it could be one of many things but I had a similar experience with my 2019 1.0 focus which was caused by a failing turbo, which was itself caused by a failing gasket meaning that the turbo was being starved of oil.

Out of interest, how much was it to fix Andy?

Luckily I had the ford warranty otherwise it would have been close to £3k (new turbo, new turbo control unit and new wiring harness due to oil contamination).
