Water leak into rear passenger foot well

Featured Replies

Hi. I'm new here so hello to everyone

My son reversed his 2009 fiesta into the neighbours 2023 plate jag ..... ouch.

Now the wet weather is here, he's found some water leaks. They're on the same side as the impact so I assume are related. There is a small one into the nearside of the boot (under the light cluster) but the bad one is into the nearside passengers footwell. the carpet is absolutely soaked. The photo is down into the footwell with the front to the top left. There is a hefty crack in the sealant which i assume is the source of the leak.

Two questions;

What should he use to try and seal up the cracks in the sealant?

Should we be worried about something under the car that might need addressing too?

I was worried that he might have given it more of a whack than he said, but apart from the rear nearside wheel arch which took the impact, theres no other obvious damage and doors/boot shut fine.

many thanks for any help

I'm assuming with the impact on such a new/expensive car, insurance company has been involved? If so, they should really check your son's car out for potential damage too which will give you further guidance on how to proceed...

You can buy proper seam sealer to fill the cracks.  Though even bathroom or gutter sealant would be fine.

There is a chance that cracks underneath could be letting water build up inside the chassis which will rust eventually.  But I doubt a 2009 Fiesta has enough years left in it to worry about that.
