Hi,

the ignition key barrel has failed on our Mk6 08 facelift Fiesta (diagnosed by a key tech so not a worn key as he cut a new one and the barrel still won’t work)

I have no issue changing over the barrel, door locks boot locks and immobiliser ring etc.

main question is the immobiliser chip in the key or in the remote section of key?

As in can I get away with replacing all the locks and just swap the keys over on to the remotes  Or will I need to program the keys to the car?

Thanks!

The chip is in the remote section of the fob.  The immobiliser ring doesn't need to be changed.

Remember you'll also need to change the lock on the fuel flap for a Mk6.

The ignition barrel is very difficult to remove if it can't be turned at all.

Hey,

thanks for the info, have now brought a whole set.

The barrel does still move it has a “slipped or spun” internally  they key guy said so for example on position 0 and 1 nothing, 2 is accessory and 3 is everything else but can’t turn no more for ignition, he did some “magic known to certain members of society 😂” and the car started up so he rulled out immo issues or a faulty starter and then basic tests of battery level etc.

is there a knack to getting barrel out at all?

Thanks!

Hmm, ok.  Haven't come across that before.

The barrel needs to be turned one notch then you can press in a pin on the outside to release it.  There are videos on YouTube showing the process better than I can explain in words.

Managed to get it done today, worked out what happened, at the end of the barrel the u clip had sheared in half and slipped back and got wedged in the middle between the ignition switch and barrel side.

got it out with a pick hook and replaced the barrel, changed over all the locks at the same time with the exception of the drivers door lock I’m guessing that will be a door card off to do?

Had to stop due to rain and light issues 😂

How many "door locks" does your car have ?

Just one door, the car only came with one key so as I was replacing the barrel I brought a full new set with two keys so changed over the boot lock and fuel flap, just need to do the drivers door now as the passenger side is key less.

The door lock doesn't require the door card to be removed.  There's just a small screw in the side of the door to release it.
