Juttering when accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

so i have recently purchased an 2020 ford focus st line.
i have noticed when accelerating relatively hard the vehicle starts juttering, nothing uncontrollable but it feels like it’s loosing power too towards the 60mph point and struggles to get to 70 without Juttering around.

it is on warranty but i was hoping if anyone has any info or advice on what it could be, many thanks.

I have a 2015 1.6 Zetec auto and have the same problem. Shuddering at take off particularly on an incline, I had this problem since I acquired the car 4 years ago, had it checked out and was told that they could not identify the problem but that it was nothing to worry about - perhaps a glitch in that batch of motors. Would also welcome comments as I am now thinking of selling the car and am concerned that it may cause a reduction in value.

Should have said my car is a fiesta

What is engine size, transmission, fuel type, mileage, last service? I've just fixed similar problem on much older model, mine was diesel fuel filter needed replacing (hadn't been done when it should, my fault). Drives fine now.

Yes mate, 37k, but its the new ecoboom, not the old death traps

Sorry I have no experience with petrols, will have to leave to others to advise. Does it happen at lower speeds/gears when accelerating hard? Maybe try up a hill. I would still consider if some kind of blockage in fuel line, but really I cant say. Hopefully not a turbo issue...

Sorry to hijack but going by ops description it's what I am experiencing so need to get the Fuel Filter done asap. I was starting to think is was engine mounts or something. Did you do the filter yourself? Seen plenty guides on here & the change seems simple but getting the car started after not so much.

See other topic/thread "Garage won't change fuel filter". Mine is diesel and the change was long overdue hence the power problems.

Cheers will have a search. I imagine mine is overdue also with the juddering I'm experiencing & the car coming on to 115k miles. I've only purchased it recently so difficult to know for sure on when things like fuel filter were done.

I think the cryptic question about is it a 1 ltr.  was concern on whether you had the self destructing engine - sadly you confirmed it has.  The sorry outcome is likely the judder is related to the fact you need to fight Ford on who buys you a £7k engine for Christmas...

the other ideas - it might have been

disable traction control and see if it drives without the judder... powerful cars and winter can easily make tyres light up (and then traction control jumps in with a judder)
if that's not it put diagnostics on it and see if any engine codes for engine management misbehaviour, modern cars have critical sensors made of Bosch chocolate
