Fog light and driving light not working - offside only

Featured Replies

Hello all,

So a couple of weeks ago I managed to hit a small deer that ran out in front of me (it did run off afterwards at least) - this smashed the fog light / driving light on the offside (2012 Titanium X model). The wiring loom seemed to all be intact so I wrapped it in a bag to seal it up, then tucked it into the bumper so that it wasn't exposed.

At the weekend I fitted a new fog light unit (well, second hand off ebay) but neither of the lights are working - they are fine on the near side, but not the off side. I went looking for fuses which I couldn't find, and after a bit of googling I think I may have a faulty lighting module ? Is this likely to have been affected by the impact ? Both bulbs were intact, though they would have been exposed for five minutes or so between the collision happened and me getting home. Is there any way of testing the module ? And where is it mounted so that I can pull out the old one to check for part numbers if I do need to replace it ?

Thanks in advance

There are no fuses for those lights. They are electronically protected by the Body Control Module (BCM). If the BCM detected a fault when the lights were broken then it will have shut off the power. Normally when the fault has been cleared (new lights fitted) the BCM will detect this and restore power after the next ignition cycle.

Have you fitted new bulbs or are you reusing the old ones ? It's very difficult to visually inspect a bulb and be 100% sure that it is working. It's always better to fit a new bulb when replacing a lamp unit.

Thanks for replying for quickly.

I have used the same bulbs, by have some spares available, I will give them a try.

Would there be fault codes that need clearing first ?

There could be Ford specific DTC's logged which can be cleared using FORScan, but these codes would not stop the lights from working. They are simply a record of faults that have occurred.

Just to update, I changed the fog light bulb, removed the driving light bulb, rotated it 180 degrees and put it back in, and all working again.

Thanks for your help and advice
