2015 Diesel Smax cutting out when accelerating

Featured Replies

As per the title, my S-Max cuts out sometimes. It usually happens when accelerating under load in 5th or 6th gear, as the revs creep up above 2000rpm.

I've taken it to a couple of garages and they suggest either the fuel pump or injectors. The fuel filter has been replaced.

To add to the fun, the car sometimes fails to display either the live or average MPG, leading me to believe this is an electronic fault.

The car is a 2015 2 litre diesel, with just over 100k on the clock.

Any ideas as to what could be the cause of these issues?

Interesting one with the first question (whilst I'm no expert, I can only say where I'd start to look) being...fault codes when it cuts out?

If none, what is the live data when it happens on, for example, fuel rail pressure (demand - likely to be high at your specified conditions and actual?) and matching air flow, turbo vane positions, EGR - anything that doesn't match the demanded power etc.

Is the failure to display MPG values exactly coincident?

Even if not, it must be derived from distance/speed and fuel flow sensors which may be relevant to the overall issue?

I don't rate garage "suggesting" expensive components need changing without data and evidence- that isn't diagnosis (unless they will refund for parts that don't fix the problem - am I being unreasonable here?)

Can you find a real diagnostician in your area to focus on getting some evidence if you can't do it yourself (using Forscan and a lead)?

e.g. perhaps (no idea if it will help, always your decision):
