Upgrading head unit from basic to SYNC?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have a mk3 Focus from 2012, with the most basic head unit available (no SYNC, no bluetooth, just the radio+CD with a USB connection in the glove box), seen here:

So far, I have hotwired a bluetooth module from Aliexpress into the AHU, so that I could at least listen to music from my phone, but now I'm starting to "miss" things. It may be dull, but I would like to put my phone away while driving, have the gps and music controls on a screen and answer phone calls if needed, so I'm thinking about upgrading, preferrably to SYNC 3 (or something quality with a screen).

So far, I have found tutorials on how to upgrade from SYNC 1 to SYNC 3, or even from a bluetooth-equipped model, but it seems, nobody online has such a basic setup with goals like this (or they just don't want to share that it's impossible to do  lol).

So, my question would be if anybody here has had any experience upgrading such setup, if it's even possible and where to start with it. Any help or advise is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
