Hi folks,

Needing some help!

There is a funny smell in my car, would describe it as “unpleasant”, not bad bad but certainly not nice. Funny thing is, it’s noticeable when opening he car but disappears after a few moments. Leave, close door, come back after a while and repeat. 
 

I have no idea what this smell is, where it is coming from, whether it is dangerous etc. 

So far I have: cleaned the car inside and out, washed and hoovered the interior, replaced the mats, replaced the boot cover (which was mouldy) and used a scent bomb - nothing, still there!

I had thought the smell was coming from the boot as there was some standing water in there under the spare wheel, but after draining this and cleaning up the smell persists. 
 

Happy to hear if anyone can help me 🙂.

    Could the water that leaked into the boot also gone forward and accumulated under the actual carpet?

    Bacteria growth within the air vent ducting? It's a thing!

    Leaking A/C refrigerant? (R134a). It has a faint sweetish smell apparently.

    Leaking coolant (from heater matrix within dash)?
