Hi

I realised my washer pump had stopped working the other, it only passed its MOT at the end of November, so it must have been recent.

I checked the fuse and that was fine.

I arranged for a new pump to be fitted today, no joy neither work when fitted. The new one has been left on and the washer bottle filter has been cleaned.

The chap that fitted it is hoping it's going to be the stalk, he's pricing up a replacement if not, he thinks it could be an issue with the BCU under the bonnet.

If either of if these are to expensive, he has offered to fit a direct switch to the washer pump, losing the rear wiper wash, but road legal and I can wash the windscreen again.

Has anyone else had something similar?

Many Thanks

Martin

It’d be worth checking you’re getting a 12V supply to the washer motor connector. Think the GEM reverses it to switch from front to rear washer circuit. If you’re getting 12V then it’s likely a problem with your new pump. Tricky now it’s on the car but you could also try putting 12V onto the pump and seeing if it works.

That way you’ll at least have a start on localising if it’s an iffy motor or wiring/stalk issue.

You can try tracing feed from the stalk and output to the washer motor by unplugging connectors on the GEM - this may also show if the pins are in good condition or corroded as they are known to suffer from water ingress sometimes in that area. Wiring schematic is linked on this forum fyi

Thanks for the reply, I was just looking to change the title of the thread as I did not realise I had not put the issue in the title 😁

The new pump work when connected direct to a live feed the old worked slowly from the a live feed.

I will have a look at the wiring before deciding next steps.

Thanks

100% sure its dead and not the bottom of the bottle is full of slime ?

forget if hers did it - slime build up is a big killer, but sometimes flush the bottle and give it some exercise and they come round - don't forget bubble bath is there to keep the frost out

Hi

Yep bottle and filter cleared and cleaned. Neither motor worked when connected to the car but both work when tested, the old one was weak, so the new one has been left on the car

Not sure if it's connected or not, cannot remember when I last used the washer, wipers are normal, but I had a flat battery on Monday and put a new battery on, cannot see how it could be connected.

I will just wait and see what the mechanic says next, try a replacement stork or just put a button in, which is not ideal.

Thanks

Really odd now, as I have been for a drive, replied to the last reply and before setting back I thought I was try the washers, and they worked, only for a few seconds, but they worked. Have not worked since, so hopefully, a new stalk will work.
