Dashcam Hardwire kit on Ford Focus 2015 help wanted

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently become a Ford Focus 2015 owner and want to install a simple dashcam. Through my work, I see a lot of car accidents, which made me realize how valuable dashcam footage can be for proving fault and recovering damages.

I’m looking to hardwire my dashcam and have a few questions:

My dashcam has a parking mode so i have a black ground, yellow ACC and red VCC+ wire.

  1. Which fuse should I use, and how do I determine the correct orientation for the fuse tap?
  2. Some fuse slots in the box are empty. Can these still be used, or should I avoid them?
  3. If i wire it up and the camera does not work, what are some troubleshooting steps i can take?

I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences you can share!

Thanks in advance 🙂

Best regards,

Michiel

1. You need two different fuses.  One permanent live for parking mode.  And one switched live for the full camera function when the ignition is on.

2. You can use empty slots.  But you must check whether they are powered first.  Not all of the fuse slots will have power to them if the wiring is not present for unfitted optional extras.

3. Double check power to the fuse tap and also that the fuse hasn't blown.

This diagram shows which way to fit the fuse tap.
