Bulbs keep blowing 2019

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

i had to replace both bulbs back in February and then a couple of weeks ago I realised that the drivers side was out.  Bought a couple and changed it and all ok but now the passenger side has blown.
is this gonna be just one of those things or could it be likely to be a battery/alternator issue or is it more likely to be the dreaded BCM mucking up?

I did think the BCM was playing up after having silly little things happening like starting the car and the dimming indication up on the dashboard and various screen settings like heated screen or front blower buttons showing alight.
any help would be appreciated.
I know I can get the BCM changed relatively cheap so how easy is it to remove it, can u remove it under the footwell or u need to get the glove box out?
again any help appreciated

Bulbs keep blowing 2019

What model and what year?

Heading is saying 2019, but your profile says 2013 and the model is "A Max" 🤔

I assume you are using good quality bulbs?

The first thing I would do is check the charging voltage with a multimeter across the battery terminals with the engine running at tick over and again at about 2,000 rpm (you will need a helper to do this). Voltage should be around 14 volts, maybe up to about 14.5 volts. Too high a voltage can cook the bulbs, & probably means the alternator is kaput.

Well I’m using Halfords 200% plus bulbs, I think they are ok. Seem to cost enough but of course that doesn’t mean anything.

I've always found that brighter than normal ones don't last long, rarely more than one year, although the one that only lasted a few weeks must have been faulty.

If the Charging system on your car is the same as mine then the Voltage can get as high as low 15 Volts occasionally. this hasn't affected my Lamps, which are still the original ones.
