Cylinder 4 misfire

Featured Replies

My piston ring is burnt out, am I better to go with a whole “new” engine or have it stripped down and repaired, please advise

If this is a 1.0 Ecoboost engine then it is of little point trying to save it.

You need to replace it with a new engine.

There isn't a cylinder 4 on a 1.0 EcoBoost.

Leon does say it's a 2015 ST in his profile...........😀

Unclear how you would know it was a piston ring if (as far as I can see) the engine hasn't been dismantled yet, though?

If it is a damaged ring then it will have damaged the bore, meaning a full engine rebuild with bored out cylinders and larger pistons needed.

Not the best option for a fairly cheap and plentiful engine IMO.  Brand new crate engine would be best.  If you can't find (or afford/justify) one of those, I'd probably just fit a good used engine.  People are crashing STs all the time, shouldn't be hard to get a decent engine from one of those.

......and there's the problem right there. No wonder cylinder 4 is not working 🤣

mmmm..... it's not like we don't regularly see incorrect profiles. In fact did we not just have that exact thing in the last couple of days ? Sure we just had someone say in their profile it was an 'ST' but it turned out to be an 'ST Line'

So..... should the OP repair the engine or just replace it ?

Personally I'd still go with replace it 👍

Yes, it's getting to be a bit of a time waster.

As it's almost 10 years old I'd also incline towards a replacement, but it would be interesting to know what the fault was and how diagnosed.

I see Pumaspeed have some interesting replacement options (full or short motor) including standard or modded block.

 Usually after they've stolen them!😀

Just to waffle on a bit on that theme.

Although, in this case, the OPs profile was in fact correct, manufacturers nomenclature has caused a lot of confusion on many owners forums. Not just Ford ST-Line, but Audi (S-Line), VW (R-Line), Hyundai (N-Line), Peugeot (GT-Line), etc, etc.

Similarly Ford have shot themselves in the foot calling all petrol turbos "Ecoboost", leading people to believe that's "aka Ecoboom" in all cases.

Are you saying there isn't a Audiboom, VboomW, Hyunboom or Pugboom? 😋

Don't think I've found a forum yet where there isn't some sort of issue. There's certainly Pugboom (Puretech).😀

Surely that's a Peug-Oh!
