Help with identifying engine part

Featured Replies

Eyup Focus-ites,

I’d appreciate help with identifying a part of my engine that apparently has some sticking pins inside as I’d like to open it up and clean it and if it’s simple enough to do so without causing more issues by doing so.

I posted recently regarding the issues I had with the car not starting and after trying a number of things beforehand it turned out that that  part that was the culprit.

I’ve attached a picture and circled it in red.

identification and advice would be much appreciated.

Engine is a 1.8 Tdci inside a Focus Mk2 (2008 Zetec)

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

EGR Valve

  • Author

Thanks Tom. I’ve since been reading about blanking off the EGR and may give it a go as the lack of/jerky acceleration on starting has always been a bit of a pain. Didn’t realise it was related to the EGR valve until now.

Maybe it will solve the issue of the car not starting again further down the line too although the breakdown man said it was due to sticking pins and I see no pins involved with the blanking plate installation.

these things have lots of benefits....

the main one is trying to keep the engine hot enough the oil knows how to do its job in the winter - with the added benefit the heater gets hot

blanking it off - yes in the summer on a race track (when trying to kill everyone on the planet with pollution) not having an EGR does make more power - otherwise keep them clean and working
