SYNC Dead After USB Update - 2017 Focus 1.5 TDCI

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've got a 2017 Ford Focus Titanium 1.5 TDCI.

I did a manual software update via USB and downloaded and the software direct from Ford's website and followed all the instructions. It all seemed fine and the display said "update successful" but the next time I started the car, the radio/display was completely dead. Just a black screen and unresponsive.

So far I've tried:

  • Disconnecting the battery
  • Various button combo resets on display
  • Local audio specialist had a look and got no feed or response from it
  • Tried to check fuses but they're a nightmare to get at and unlabelled - local audio specialist also said he's never know a software update to blow a fuse also.

Anyone had similar issues after doing a USB update? Really hoping to avoid the costs of going to Ford direct if possible!

Yes, I've had it myself. It's just another classic case of Ford's messages not actually meaning what they say. Put the USB back in the car and leave it. After a while, took mine a day and a half it will suddenly wake back up and tell you it's finished for the second time.
