Which impact Wrench would you recommend ?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I am struggling in getting a 10mm Bolt off that is holding my Starter Motor in place which is the one from underneath.

I have also tried a Heat Gun which did not help.

I have tried a Spanner, Socket Wrench, my Cordless 18v Dewalt Drill and don't want to end up damaging the Head of the Bolt with anymore attempts.

I think it's time to buy myself an impact wrench unless my local Mechanic may borrow me his lol.

I just wanted to ask which cordless Impact Wrenches you would recommend that are under the £150 mark please.

I did look at some of the straight shaped ones that help to get into the hard to get places but not sure if they are as powerful.

Thank you all for sharing your recommendations.

Personally I have never had an Impact Wrench but I do have a set of 6 Sided Heavy Duty Impact Sockets, a couple of Breaker Bars and a selection of hollow bits of Tubing including a short length of Scaffolding Pole that I can use to extend the length of the Bars and I have always managed to remove stubborn Bolts with them although you do need a lot of room to use the long Bars.

My opinion is that good Sockets are the important thing with or without an Impact Wrench.

Yes I agree and I usually use my scaffolding bar as a breaker bar but cannot use it here as it is in a bad spot.

I may try my dewalt cordless Drill again with different settings 🙏

I charged the dewalt and learned about the highest torque setting and managed to get it off but am still considering in buying an impact wrench.

Thanks for the suggestions.

i have just bought the dewalt dcf891, quite similar power to the dcf899 but its smaller and lighter.

my brother in law had the dcf899 and i did use it to replace my brake disc but i found that bit too heavy and big for my arthrities wrist so been looking around for a silimar one.

ive had a ryobi impact wrench for 6 years, its used as a hammer and thrown around in anger a lot. still works perfectly

I don't think £150 will buy what you need. If I want to remove a really tight one, I always have in the end using heat, long bars and close fitting six sided sockets.  I lust after a great big Milwaukee Fuel that can bend a crankshaft (2000+NM) but that's about £900. If I were really stuck, I would consider the bolt sacrificial and cut or grind it off. A couple of quid for a bolt versus an afternoon on my back swearing at it - easy decision.
