Changing car

Featured Replies

Hello

I have a 2015 ford fiesta eco boost that’s done 64000 miles. I know about the wet belt situation, in fact my neighbour s car is the same and hers has blown. I love my fiesta and I’m gutted at having to change it. I like the drive of it more than anything else. It feels smooth and zippy to me. What options do you think I should go for.. thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Why do you have to change it ?

A 2015 model that has not had the wet timing belt replaced will be worth next to nothing.

Would you want to but it ? 🤔

The only sensible option is to get the work done as an extreme matter of urgency. A good independent garage will be able to do the work for around £1000, and then you keep your Fiesta. 👍

You don't have to change it - cheaper to get the cambelt changed. It's due anyway and you may have trouble selling or get a lower price if it's not done.

You could look at a newer Fiesta with chain cam drive (though still wet belt for the oil pump).

Otherwise a Seat Ibiza is a decent drive, though not quite as sharp as the Fiesta.

Yes I had thought of that but I also have two tyre sensors that have broke, and it recently had two new front tyres but now one of them is losing air and I have to pump it up weekly. The gear stick sometimes jams and no garage can offer a solution other than to wait and see if it stops working! It just gets stuck in gear every now & then, but once the car stalls everything is fine again. So in general, it’s not without it’s problems.

Hi Joss45

If you like the car that much would you not consider getting the belt changed? Think I have read elsewhere prices at around £900ish?

Have you had the car long? Could you opt for a newer model.

Good luck with everything. I just wouldn't wait too long to make up your mind as these belts seem to be very unforgiving at a certain age from reading on here.

A cambelt change costs under £800 near me, and I will probably choose this option when my belt is due in a few months as that will surely be a cheaper option than flogging the car and buying another.
