Galaxy MK2 ecoboost 2.0: auxilary heater possible?

Featured Replies

I used to have an auxilary heater on my  previous car. A volvo XC70. A really comfortable option!

In forscan I found this code: Code: U0166 - Lost Communication With Auxiliary Heater Control Module

which got me thinking that an auxilary heater apparently is an option. I don't think my car is equipped with a heater (how to find out? where should it be mounted?). The option is at least greyed out in the dash computer.

When my car doesn't have a auxilay heater, can it still be installed using the original car software/hardware?

No one?

There are two different types of auxiliary heater.

There's a diesel powered type which can pre-heat the interior, which is what your Volvo probably had?  It's a big unit that fits under the car.  Older Galaxy's also had them, not sure about the Mk2 Galaxy.

Then there's a thin electric element type that fits inside the heater box next to the heater matrix.  This is the type that is probably fitted on a petrol car, if there is one fitted at all.  This is only used with the engine running due to the amount of electricity it uses, it can't be used to preheat the interior.

My volvo indeed had a webasto heater unit. It burned petrol on it's own to heat the coolant and interior.

My parents had a seat Alhambra diesel also with a heater fitted.

How do I know if there is a electrical heater element fitted? Can I check this?

There will be a high Amperage Fuse, probably two or three of them and they will be marked something like Auxiliary Heater, or Electric Booster Heater.

My car has two 40 and a 60 Amp Fuses, I have seen other cars with just two.

I can't find such fuse in the fuse boxes. Also it's not mentioned in this service chart: https://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/vdirsnet/OwnerManual/Home/Content?variantid=3005&languageCode=en&countryCode=USA&Uid=G1496162&ProcUid=G833628&userMarket=irl&div=f&vFilteringEnabled=False&buildtype=web

Maybe it's not there, but I find it strange that it's mentioned in the computer of the car and also as an error in forscan
