Why lots of missing fuses in Fiesta Mk7?

Featured Replies

My heated windscreen wasn't working which I tracked down to a missing fuse (F1 7.5A). A new fuse restored function to the windscreen, air con and interior courtesy lights. I have just got the car and I have no idea why this fuse was missing.

Checking the owners manual shows there are actually lots of fuses and relays missing in my car. Some are obviously not needed e.g. glow plug fuse in my petrol car or they control specs I don't have in my 2010 Zetec (e.g. heated seats, parking aid, rear power windows).

But others are not to obvious to me and I can't work out whether they are simply not needed or whether they have been removed. Can anyone spot anything in this list that definitely should be there and might be causing problems if missing. Thanks!

Engine compartment:

F2 Cooling system fan - high speed.

F18 Powertrain control mod (PCM).

F25 Daytime running lamps

F28 ABS module, ESP

Relay 6 Daytime running lamps

Relay 7 Engine Cooling fan

Relay 12 Reverse lamp

Passenger fuse box:

F23 Trailer module

F36 Rear power point, battery saver

F37 Luggage aux power point

F41 Ignition position 1

F42 Ignition position 2

Relay 8 Battery saver

If a fuse is missing on a recently sold car, it is likely that the previous owner was having electrical problems which kept blowing the fuse, but they didn't track down the fault.

As there may or may not be the same list of options on your mk7 vs anyone else's, I'm not sure how to help in the other 'missing' fuses.  Can you track down the factory options list of your car?

ETA you can easily check your reversing light, but the cooling fan might be more difficult (in winter) - the fan might be controlled by other fuses or relays depending on the model/engine/gawd knows, so I wouldn't panic just yet.

If you carefully examine the slot that a fuse fits you will see that if there is a possibility that a fuse might be missing, then there will be a brass contact at each end of the fuse carrier. If there was never a fuse fitted in a particular location then there will either be no brass contacts fitted or there will be only one brass contact fitted. The same applies for relays, check and see if there are two brass contacts fitted for the relay coil.
