Focus st rear view mirror

Featured Replies

Hi

I've got a ford focus st on a 21 plate and my rear view mirror has become loose is there a special way I need to fix it as every time I push it on it becomes loose again

Any help would be grateful

on the mk 2 the bit on the screen and the mirror each have a tapered angle on the bracketry - when the screen fitter didn't want to pop the screen out he failed to push the mirror on firmly enough and it wobbles

the removal is to twist the mirror housing 45 degrees to the screen till it pops off - to be honest I haven't tried to do it properly - and of course you need to check if they still use the same idea (looking out for the trim cover and wires)

They are designed to 'snap' on and in the event of an accident 'snap' off.

Once properly aligned it should just snap back on with a good firm push.

Why would that be?  I would have thought a loose heavy lump flying around the car as it rolls would be avoided!

All interior fitted mirrors are designed to break off the windscreen if hit by something like your head. I believe that was introduced back in the 1980's.

Prior to the stick on mountings that we have become so familiar with these days, the interior mirror was screwed to the roof. During crash tests it was found that a number of head injuries were cased by the mirror being so rigidly mounted.

that's exactly the same...   first new screen bod had the mirror rock solid - hoddies decided to smash it next day for fun - the next new screen the fitter has it wobbly - at first I thought he must have destroyed the bit on the screen - they both removed the mirror by turning it 45 degrees and it just pops off - and fitted it by locating on an angle then twisting back to its normal location

I thought the plastic bit on the screen gets a ridge in the right place "as they fit it" - and on hers I was thinking it needs to sit 2 mm closer to the screen to remove the wobble - but will it clash and just become worse and even wobblier with a bigger sloppier ridge still too far back ????

However - on your pic of the actual mirror - inside the cast silver ring is a sprung steel black clip that’s bolted on - I thought that’s the bit that bites into the plastic on the screen but maybe not ??? on yours it seems that sprung steel bit really goes on the round metal bit with a three sided triangle to clip on too...

I figured he buggered something up and didn't want to make it worse - maybe he's (and on yours) over exercised the bolt on black spring steel bit ?
