Door open warning..............but its not

Featured Replies

So i have a warning light on my dash telling me that the drivers door is open when its not, resulting in me not being able to lock the car.

I have replaced the lock with a replacement (2nd hand) and its still the same, so either that unit is also faulty or i have a broken wire somewhere.

Does anyone know what pins on the connector are for the switch?

Also is it possible to disable this with Forscan?

Thanks

When you say you replaced the 'lock' what part did you replace ?

The door ajar switch is in the door latch mechanism.

No you can't simply do without it for many reasons, not least of which you already know and that is you can't lock the doors.

I replaced the part the plug/cables goes into, it locks then unlocks as it thinks the door is still open

It sounds like you might have replaced the wrong part. From what you say you have replaced the power door lock and not the latch.

The other possibilities are a broken wire in the harness between the door and the car 'A' post OR, a fault with the GEM.

If you FORScan and a vLinker FS lead you can plug in to the cars OBDII port and find out why the car thinks the door is open.

Yes that's right 👍.  Was it the exact same part number ? there are a possible 3 versions for your car and they are not all interchangeable.

If it is the correct part number then I would say the next thing is to use FORScan and see why the car thinks the door is open.

I've connected Forscan and the only fault relates to the ABS, nothing about the central locking etc

I didn't check part numbers as i thought they were all the same 😬

That's unfortunate.

Does your car have double locking (dead locks) ? Do you have an alarm ?

You might have a replacement that does not have the switch fitted, or this could simply be a case of a broken wire, usually in the door harness across to the car body.

I only got the car last week so not sure about the double locking or alarm, I bought it knowing about this problem

I'll check part numbers tomorrow and have a look for any broken/chaffing wires

which part of this is the actual part number?

6M2A-218112-MB

The last letter 'B' can be the same or higher, but you can't use 'A'

For example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155986926620

Thanks,

MB is the "original" and I've replaced it with a MC but as mentioned that's not working either

I did have a quick look at the wires but it was getting dark and space is tight but I'll have a better look tomorrow
