Focus mk2 reverse light problem

Featured Replies

Hi!

in my 2005 mk2 1.6l ti-vct the reverse light is not working. The problem is that I can measure the voltage on the contacts, but as soon as I put at least one bulb in the voltage drops to almost zero. I have the wiring schematic and I broke down the problem to 2 possible problems.

1. The reverse switch.
It was the first thing I checked and it seemed fine, it is switching as it should be. But is it possible that the contact inside is bad and it is still switching the voltage, but cannot deliver the current?

2. The electric box inside.

I mean it survived a water leak. I dried and cleaned it, but I can imagine now it is gone somehow. Do you know which numbers to check before buying a replacement?

Thank in advance!

It could just be the bulb holder

Unplug the reverse light switch and link out the contacts in the plug. Turn on the ignition. Do the lights work? If yes, then the switch is faulty. If no then the switch is not the problem and the fault could be the GEM

A bit late to answer but all in all, the switch was faulty. I tried it with hands and it was working. Turned out it died in the range the gearbox pushed it. If I pushed with hands it worked fine.

after changing to a new it is now good.
