(Scottish) Wet belt query ...again... sorry

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Recently bought my mum's 2016 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost off her, only 20,000 miles and always serviced etc but I'm worried enough about the wet belt. Wish I'd never googled it!!
We live in Ayr and I can't find anyone nearer than Edinburgh on the internet that sounds like they'd know what they are doing which is a pain but if I have to then I have to.
Just wondered if anyone recommended anyone near Ayr/ Kilmarnock/ Glasgow for Ford expertise and wet belts. I've not approached the local Ford place for a quote but may as well.

The car runs fine and I suspect the OCD servicing my mum did will avoid any issues but I can't be risking it really.

Any advice gratefully received,

thanks

Before ringing Ford for a quote, have a couple of double whiskys and be sure to sit down. Expect a quote of £1600 to £2000

Your car has low mileage for it's age which is actually a bad thing when it comes to the wet belts failing. You need to get them (oil pump belt as well) done in the next few months.

Thanks both,

I'll try them. I've been basing it on google results that mention the wet belt as opposed to just a cam belt but it can't hurt to ask.

and yes, I'll get on it,

it seems the Ford goodwill campaign is based mainly on cars that have gone bang as opposed to trying to avoid the bang!!

Sorry for your troubles pal . I've been working on cars all my life, strictly  amateur,  but have always  been told never to get any crap , grease , oil etc on cambelts , then ford go and dump them in an engine  full of oil !!!!!!!!!. Hope you get sorted.

Hi, did you ever get this done? I’m looking to get my wife’s focus done in the spring, I stay in Larkhall so hoping to find someone local-ish…

Im based in the north west of scotland, so cant really help out,

But we do about 4 of these wet belts a week on the focus, fiesta and kuga.

With the belts, pick up strainer cleaner, oil gallery filter cleaned/replaced, tensioners, gaskets, new oil and filter + new coolant all included +labour

we charge £1100 if its not been bodged or bolts snap, or slightly more if there are issues, (the air con pump bolts have a habit of snapping)

From experience, we have seen low mileage cars with the belts literally thread bare, and ones with 60k+ and they look almost new.

I would not delay in getting this done. as even if it does not snap, the breakdown of the belt bocks the strainer starving the engine of oil.
