2012 MK3 focus keyless entry and lock not working properly

Featured Replies

Hi all

The keyless entry has always been a bit lazy on my car since buying it a few years ago. I changed the key fob batteries a few days ago as both had been saying low battery for months. I don't know if it is a coincidence or not but the keyless entry only works now on the rear left door and the keyless lock on both front doors isn't working. I've tried both keys and they're the same, the boot keyless entry still works thankfully as that's very handy.

I can live without it working but it's on there so I want it to work properly!

Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be? Thanks in advance.

What is the 12v battery state of charge?

What batteries did you fit in the remotes? (Where did you get them from?)

I'd suspect the the vehicles 12V battery State Of Charge is 55% or less.

I forgot to reply to this sorry.

I fitted some batteries I had in a drawer that are years old and they both died virtually instantly. So I bought some JCB batteries from Amazon, one lasted a few days before completely dying and the other one is already saying low battery. The fobs have always done this, they say low battery after a very short period of time ie days and then they last for months and months like it.

Weirdly the keyless entry has started working again

Not so very strange, it just means the vehicles 12V battery has a SOC greater than 55%

I did two hour journey to Wales yesterday and two hours on the way back, about 3/4 the way back I stopped at a roundabout and the stop start kicked in for the first time in months, I guess short journeys have taken their toll on the battery, I'll stick the smart charger on the battery tomorrow as I'm in all day and hopefully that will bring it back up to spec.

The key fob that hasn't worked has now started working perfectly and the one that was working is now playing up, before I try another set of batteries, do these fobs have a certain lifespan or have I just been unlucky with batteries do you think?

20 years or more.

Poor quality batteries. Use Energizer or @Tizer recommends buying supermarket own brand. test before fitting with a multimeter. New they should be 3.30V and they are dead and finished if less than 2.99V
