LCD dash screen

I have a 2008 petrol galaxy. LCD screen is broken on the dash - it goes on/off, back to front and even mirror image on two halves. Its had this fault for ages (I got the car from my brother in law who has really looked after it). Got a second hand set of clocks from 2012 Mondeo and had used the screen from this one to replace mine to keep mileage but the fault persists. The Mondeo one looks exactly like the broken one I have and also came from a 2.0 petrol so I thought I'd use that and ignore the mileage. However everything works but the airbag light stays on. Swapping back to the old one, the airbag light goes off. Any ideas? I've just bought a forscan reader which arrives tomorrow but don't want to knacker the car up! The clocks are type 2 I think.

After some digging around it appears both clusters are type 3, both are from 2.0 petrol just tgat my car is a 2008 and the other cluster is a 2012.

Tried it again tonight and replacment works fine BUT airbag light stays on. Can this be reset?

Am wondering if it came from a write off and that might be the reason.

Any ideas anyone? It's rather annoying!!

It can't be "reset" but there is a small chance that the instrument cluster could be reprogrammed with the software from your original using FORScan.

It wouldn't matter if it did. Crash data is not held in the instrument cluster memory.

You could use FORScan and upload the 'AsBuilt' file for your vehicle to the replacement cluster.

Thanks for the reply. How do I find and upload the as built file? Am new to forscan, am trying it out tomorrow.

Think I prefered me old mk3 escort van. No computers then!

Think I've found an idiots guide to forscan. I'll have a look today. Just don't want to naff my car up....

I've put in the replacment clocks. Still got airbag light on all the time. I've got something off forscan. Any ideas with it? Or are the replacment clocks a no go?

You have lots of DTC codes beginning "Ux-xxx" the U means simply that the rest of the car is unable to communicate with the instrument cluster over the canbus system.

You need to have a full FORScan licence to be able to programme. The free 2 month trial version should work fine once it is activated.

If you go in to the maintenance / programming mode of FORScan you will be able to select the IPC module. Then use the tab at the bottom of the page 'AB' (AsBuilt) and use that to download from the Ford servers the original IPC file for your car. Once you have that, you can use it to programme the new instrument cluster.

Thanks, really appreciate that. I'll have a look when I've got it all hooked up again. I have found the AB online database and will get the vin so I can download the files.

Would you suggest this way or saving and using the data from the old cluster? Aside from the screen, everything does work on that one.

I would probably first try it with the AsBuilt data file. 👍

Hi all. Got forscan licence. Managed to change mileage on replacment dash clocks.

However cannot get to load any files nor save the original dash settings. I get an error code followed by forscan turning the radio and aircon system on and off.

Airbag light still stays on all the time.

Am stumped. Have loaded what I'm seeing.

That's normal, it often does that as it powers modules off and on.

What version of Windows are you using ?

Have you moved the file to the location FORScan is asking for ?

It's win 10, but running the program in win 7 compatibility mode.

I've moved the "as built" file there (as far as I can see) but it isn't the same name as what it's looking for and have no idea where to find it on the Web.

The as built one came from ford.

The file name when downloaded end with .ab

Can't find one for individual files though. Is it a compressed file?

I've mow managed to download the as built file from the car. Cannot get forscan to see the file I've downloaded from Ford though. Tried putting it in various folders on the computer.

Once I've installed the new instruments I will reinstall the car as built file and hopefully this will cure the annoying airbag light.

BUT...... I would rather only install the instrument cluster partner the data. Can anyone tell me how to locate this from the different sets of data.

AND is this risky, as in don't want to wreak the car.

Any advice?
