Alloy Wheel Light Restoration

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've decided to try and hone my wheel restoration hobby into a potential side hustle, this will be my 10th set of wheels in the last few years, all for my own vehicles or family members, I've recently lost all my overtime in work due to cutbacks so it's a bit of an experiment to replace the extra cash I was earning in work. The aim is to teach myself how to do the restoration work rather then just a sand down and paint then I can move onto restoring people's wheels rather then buying and selling on. So this is my first set of wheels that I'm hopefully going to make a profit on🤞IMG_20250126_142104_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.74c2ce09ab3eccc1b3ea7ad1481ecdcd.jpgIMG_20250126_155331_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.950ceea108015e40b86dac8289bf96b4.jpgIMG_20250126_180458_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.88fa11e563b95985a116019d65df0795.jpgIMG_20250126_182045_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.981c22c5bb4af5ec5e8772b31cc9f498.jpgIMG_20250126_205317_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.dfd3ccae04e6971ad44978c8584951bf.jpgIMG_20250126_205351_copy_4000x3000.thumb.jpg.80a3a36950b0ca9909bc65e18615f6c0.jpg

I've also recently done these wheels for my son's fiesta ready for when he passes his test.

Am liking the refurbs , especially the oz wheels , haven’t seen oz wheels in a while I just wondered did you pop the front beads off the wheels ? Where I used to work we used to use a company called “ spit and polish “ based in Kent but mainly for complete overhaul because of the inside of the wheel where it seals

No I didn't pop the tyres off, just did them as is. I do have access to a tyre fitting machine as my close friend owns a garage so I can pop the tyres off if need be. I like the o.z aswell, they were on the car when I bought it, I'm not to fussed on the wolfraces if I'm being honest but they were very cheap with good tyres👍

I would say those oz wheels would cost 💲💲💲if you could buy a set on  eBay , I don’t think they make those new but I could be wrong

I don't think they make them new either,I did have a look,I found a set ford fitment,old new stock,£965

Thinking about the wolf race set are pretty good as well  , from around the same era as the oz , I guess those oz wheels are hard to find because people would rather keep em

I have a set of tsw hockenheim's that have been sat in my garage for the last 5 years, they were on my van when I bought it but I took them off as I like banded steel's but kept them as a spare set, their not in the best of condition, gouges, kerb rash etc so their going to be my practise wheels for restoration work. I remember when tsw wheels were the ones to have, the first set of aftermarket wheels I ever bought were tsw venoms, looking back not the best looking wheel but back in the day I thought they were the bees knees😂

It looks great and is more durable/ chip resistant than paint but it has the big downside of not being easily repaired or refinished. I only use a catalyst type paint for the Finnish coat and have had good results with that, so far. I recently refinished a set of Speedline ford alloys for a friend and it worked out well and gave me the encouragement to keep going on the next set of Speedline wheels for my mid 80’s Escort  ,One thing for sure is that it is a very good pastime! Even with power tools and paint spraying equipment it requires a huge amount of patience and time to pull off a good result!
