2.0TDCi Oil Leaks - any prone points?

Afternoon All,

Considering a high miles (c. 190k) '17 2.0TDCi Galaxy that has had an "oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))" advisory for past couple of years in the MOT history and I just wondered if there are any areas where these engines are more likely to leak than others? I would likely get an inspection of some sort if progressing further but any idea as to whether any typical culprits (and how significant an issue those tend to be) would be very handy to know about. Car is high miles and some level of leakage is probably normal by that point (!) but looks to have come off a fleet and had most of the key items renewed (timing belt, turbo, thermostat, oil pump, flywheel and PS gearbox etc) so I'm thinking buying at high miles but after lots of big jobs done might be reasonable compared to buying a slightly lower miles ones like I've had before (c. 100-150k) but where a lot of those big ticket items might still be coming up.....

Any thoughts most appreciated.



If all of those big jobs (especially Powershift gearbox - and what was done, why for all work) have been done correctly then those components are "new" or should have a lot of life?

Regarding oil leak IMHO, unless you inspect and find the source, it's impossible to say?

Standard leaks will be from front (easier?) and rear (much more difficult) crank seals, gearbox seal (where engine joins - again, difficult/expensive) or driveshaft seals

Those are at the bottom. Then there's multiple possibilities from above hence reason for inspecting as the cost will vary depending on ease of getting into it and replacing gasket or seal.

I wouldn't consider without knowing source however if it's a rubber lip seal, some engine stopleak may help by allowing the rubber to expand/become flexible again (have had good success for crank seals in the past - but I knew the history)
