Auxiliary belt on 2010 Fiesta mk7

Featured Replies

I’m replacing the a/c compressor on 1.4L petrol mk7 2010 fiesta (reg KP10 EFR). Thinking of putting a new aux belt on while I’m at it. Just want to check a couple of things first.

I can’t see a tensioner pulley so I’m presuming it must be a stretch belt. There’s a good guide by @CursedBones I can follow for this if so.

The original belt has the numbers 18393 174 1229 printed on it. This doesn’t seem to tally with any part numbers. EBay is telling me I need a six ribbed belt 1019mm long (6PK1019E). But there’s confusion over lengths with or without a/c. I think the 1019mm is for without a/c and the ‘1229’ printed on my belt means I need the longer 1229mm belt to incorporate the a/c pulley.

Can anyone confirm it’s a stretch belt and the size/code before I take it off? Thanks x

It is definitely a stretch belt.

I'm fairly sure it's 1019mm.  Don't think those belt numbers are referring to the length.

In this guide video posted by @CursedBones they show a 1.2L fiesta 2010 without A/C. They use the 1019mm belt. In the absence of the A/C compressor there's a dummy pulley so perhaps the belts are the same length regardless. How can I confirm this? Is there a good website people use to match part numbers to ca registration numbers?

Use a tape measure.

I have a 1.6 petrol, with A/C, so not direct help, but...

Gates 6PK1029SF this is what fits on mine, which is 1029mm

Look on Autodoc, as I've found it's quite accurate on various options available.

There, the non-A/C belt option is a 1019mm

That's helpful @orangecurry. Based on the selection from Autodoc is looks like there are 3 sizes:

1019mm = no a/c

1029mm = with a/c but no auxillary heating

1030-1033mm = with a/c and with auxillary heating.

I don't have the aux heating it just blows in normal heat from engine so mine should be 1029mm like your 1.6L (presuming you don't have extra aux heating in your car).

I doubt the extra few mm makes much difference though over a metre length!

I don't have extra heating.

With it being a stretch belt, even a slightly longer one "might" be a little bit loose.

This is the one I supplied when I had the timing belt done on my car in November: https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/contitech-drive-belt-202777275

Thanks @mickywrx  pretty sure that’s the one I need. The eBay compatibility guides are worse than useless. Glad I looked deeper into this rather than getting the first one eBay suggested.

now all I’ve got to do is fit it 😮

They aren't actually that bad, Nic.  The time I replaced one, the hardest part was accessing the crank pulley bolt.  It would have been easier on a ramp, rather than lying on the floor.

@mickywrx I’m about to get down onto an ice cold drive right now to check I can reach that bolt with the tools I’ve got.

Did you bother with the stretch belt tool or can it be done with a bit of patience and poking?

I used to do them with a pocket pry bar like this. (Not my picture)

Anyone else carry an actual pocket prybar : r/Tools

Well after all that fuss about which stretch belt I’ve now discovered I’ve got the 1019mm one on my car! Have moved the crankshaft pulley round and it’s revealed the other side of the belt.

It’s a dayco brand. So I’m presuming this is a replacement rather than the original belt. I’m convinced it should be 1029mm for my car so I’m thinking someone’s put the wrong one on in past.

I used this one: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/laser-stretchy-belt-removalfitting-tool/

It's also helpful if you've got someone to give you a hand.  When I was doing it, the belt started coming off the alternator when I was underneath the damn car. 🙄

Hi nic what length belt did you end up fitting

Thanks
