2016 Fiesta Brake light issue

Featured Replies

Hi all, just bought a 2016 Fiesta for my son as his first car. The car is great and looks like it’s been well looked after. I’ve been trying to solve an issue but, could do with some help please.

All brake lights work fine when the lights are switched off but, when you switch the lights on (which also all work OK) and then press the brake pedal, the offside rear light goes out completely and the brake light (just offside) doesn’t illuminate.

I’ve replaced the bulbs in both sides (just in case), checked the fuses and inspected the wiring loom as far as I could go with no issues found but, the problem persists.

Anyone experienced this before or got any ideas what I could try next please ?

Thanks.

That sounds like there is an earth to chassis missing somewhere.

This is an earth fault as Paul has said. The earth on the side where the light goes out is in poor condition and has high resistance. If you follow the wiring harness back from the light assembly you will find nearby a wire (normally black) which is bolted to the bodywork.
