Number Plate Bolts

Featured Replies

Does anyone  happen to  know the size of the rear number plate bolts on a 2023 Ford Focus? At present these are an uncovered, silver finish, drilled though the black letters, which I'm concerned might eventually suffer corrosion. For added protection, and aesthetics, I'd like to get black plastic pop-clip covers fitted but I'm not sure what size the bolts are on my Focus; perhaps M6 or M8. Definitely bigger than those on my previous car (Mini Clubman) as the spare covers that I have from that are way too small.

If your Focus has threaded inserts in the tailgate then you’d be looking at M6 or maybe M5 fixings. Would definitely not be as large as M8

Or if it’s got plastic inserts then usually self tapper or similar are used but bit harder defining the thread size.

Worst case take one out and have a look - may be possible to get alternatives in stainless steel for example

Thanks @troy45 and yes they are threaded inserts, so perhaps m6.

I have used black nylon bolts before now, using "Modelfixings", but no longer available I think.

Button head are:

but only up to M5 unfortunately.

Thanks all, some good idea & links here.  Very helpful.  They are definitely threaded inserts, rather than self tapping pointed screws.  I need to get my ruler out!

Now checked, they are M6.  I had some other (too short  to use) M6 bolts to test the thread size.   Now I know what I'm looking for 🙂

Ford use M6 on the rear of focus, Kuga , transit connect, front self tapers.

Front and rear of Capri, explorer, mache e , puma ,transit van ,transit custom self tapers.

Ranger M5 front M6 or self tapers rear.

Front of courier self tapers , rear M5

Transit Luton van, tippers M6 + nuts rear, front self  tapers.

I know, too much information. 🤣🤣🤣

Lots of options if they’re M6. You could get some pan head screws like these

or flanged style

I'm tempted to say, "Hark whose talking!".

Some of these. But shorter . Cut a bit off.
