Erratic fuel gauge

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I have an issue with my 2017 Ford Transit Couriers fuel gauge. It is moving erratically irrespective of how much fuel is in the tank. One second it shows empty another 3/4 another full, and then it might show correctly for a while, you get the idea...

I hooked it up to my iCarsoft pro and got "Fuel sender short to ground", well that sucks but OK lets do it. Changed the fuel sender and pump today and immediately after filled up some diesel and still had the same issue with the gauge. Swore and threw a wrench and went inside and got back out a while later and the gauge behaved normally and I couldn't recreate the fault code of the sender unit in the garage. According to the diagnostic unit the fuel gauge indicator control says 44% and my guess is I filled up roughly 15L so maybe 35%, the gauge is showing less than that (see picture).  Does anyone have any ideas of what might cause this issue?
